Starwest Botanicals Recalls Organic Whole Celery Seed

Starwest Botanicals is recalling Starwest Organic Whole Celery Seed, which may be contaminated with Salmonella. The product was sold to online and mail order customers, or held for pick-up. The celery seed was sold between April 26, 2011 and December 14, 2011. This is the third company to announce a recall of celery seed this month.

    • Lot number F7073 on the bottom of the pouch

    • 1 pound mylar packages

Recall SignageA customer notified Starwest Botanicals, prompting the voluntary recall. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this product.

Salmonella can cause serious and fatal infections in the elderly, young children, those with compromised immune systems, and those with chronic illnesses. Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include nausea, vomiting, fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. If the bacteria gets into the bloodstream, it can cause arterial infections, arthritis, and endocarditis.
