The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has updated its investigation into the recall of XL Foods Inc. ground beef and ground beef products for E. coli 0157:H7. The recall has just been expanded again to include more products sold at Freson Bros., Sobeys/Foodland, IGA, and Douglas Meats (Marketplace Co-op). Look at the long list of recalled products carefully to see if you have purchased any of them.
The recalled products now include beef jerky, various flavors of beef patties, meatloaf, meatballs, along with ground beef. In fact, Sobeys/Foodland is recalling all store-made ground beef products. This is the fifth expanded recall alert.
More than 200 products are affected by this recall. More products may be identified and further expansions of the recall could be issued, so stay alert.
The CFIA is conducting an in-depth review at XL Foods (Est. 38) to find out how and where the contamination occurred. Public health officials are examining preventative control measures, food safety policies and procedures, laboratory methodology, and equipment and quality systems. An update of the investigation can be found at the CFIA web site.
