Canadian XL Foods Ground Beef E. coli Recall Expands for Sixth Time

The public warning and recall of XL Foods beef products has expanded for a sixth time. The products may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7. The products were sold at Foodland, Sobeys, and small butcher shops, other small retailers, and local meat markets.

Recall signYou can see the list of recalled products at the CFIA web site. Products include all store-made ground beef products, meatloaf, meatballs, various types of ground beef, and beef patties. If you have purchased these products, return them to the store or discard them.

The brands include Calahoo Meats, CO-OP, Douglas Meats (Foodland IGA), Douglas Meats (Marketplace Co-op), Entrepot de Viandes, Foodland, Freson Bros., Giant Tiger, Kirkland Signature, Loblaw Inc., Metro, No Brand, Northern, presto and Club Entrepot, Reddi Food Solutions Inc., Safeway, Sobeys, Sobeys/Foodland, Sobeys/IGA, and Super C.

Foods contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7 will not smell, taste, or look spoiled. This dangerous bacteria can cause life-threatening infections. Always cook ground beef to a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees F using a meat thermometer and keep raw meats away from other foods to avoid cross-contamination.
