Derivative Recalls of Products Containing Mangoes for Salmonella

The recall of Daniella mangoes imported from Mexico for possible Salmonella Braenderup has resulted in derivative recalls. Those are recalls of products made using recalled foods as ingredients. The mangoes were distributed nationwide in Canada and the U.S., so expect more of these recalls in the days and weeks to come. MangoThe mangoes were originally sold from July 12, 2012 to August 29, 2012 in both countries. The mangoes may be associated with a multistate outbreak that has sickened 105 people in 16 states. The stores that may have sold the mangoes, both individually and in packs, include Aldi, Amigos, BI-LO, Copps, Costco, El Super, Food 4 Less, Food Lion, Giant Food, Hannaford, Harveys, Kroger, LLC, Mariano’s, Market Street, Martin’s Food Market, Metro Market, Pick ‘n Save, Rainbow, Ralph’s, Reid’s, Roundy’s, Savemart, Stop & Shop, TOP Food & Drug, Topco, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, Winn-Dixie, and Whole Foods.

8/29/12: Tropical Fruit Salad sold at Sobeys in Edmonton, Alberta has been recalled. The store-made salad in 16 ounce size may contain the recalled mangoes as an ingredient. The salad was sold only at Southbrook Sobeys, 1109 James Mowatt Trail SW up to and including August 29, 2012.

8/30/12: Pineapple Mango Pico De Gallo distributed by Spokane Produce has been recalled. The product was made with Daniella mangoes associated with a Salmonella outbreak in the United States that has sickened 103 people in 16 states. the product was sold refrigerated under brand labels Garden Patch or Yoke’s. It was sold in supermarkets in Idaho, Montana, and Washington state in 16 ounce plastic containers with UPC number 8869483987.

8/30/12: In Canada, Sunterra Markets Fruit Cups, Yogurts, and Salads were recalled because they were made with the recalled Daniella mangoes. For UPC numbers, sizes, and product names, visit the CFIA web site.

8/31/12: Mango Spears, Hannaford Fruit Burst and Hannaford Tropical Medley were recalled by Hannaford Bros. co. because they contain recalled Daniella brand mangoes. Hannaford has also removed the affected mangoes from its stores.

8/31/12: World Foods Salsa and Salads recalled for containing Daniella mangoes. The products were sold under Garden Highway, generic, and Winn-Dixie brand names and had code dates ranging from 8/30/12 to 9/1/12, sold in central and south Florida stores.

8/31/12: Winn-Dixie cut fruit products are recalled because they contain Daniella mangoes. The UPC numbers for this recall are similar to the World Foods recall above.

8/31/12: BI-LO is recalling whole imported Daniella mangoes with UPC number 0-00000-04051, sold at stores in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The fruit may be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup.

8/31/12: Stop & Shop recalls Splendid Products LLC Daniella mangoes for possible Salmonella Braenderup contamination. The mangoes have PLU #4959.

9/1/12: In Canada, Daniella mangoes packed under the Catania brand label were recalled. And the CFIA expanded the sale date of the recalled mangoes to July 12, 2012 to August 31, 2012.

9/1/12: Ready Pac recalls many products made with the mangoes, including fruit trays, fruit bowls, and salads, that were sold at Starbucks, Walmart, and many other stores in these states: Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Washington D.C., Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and Canada.

9/1/12: Pacific Coast Fruit Company is recalling deli styled salads and mango & cucumber salsa sold in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.

9/1/12: Real Foods Kent WA and Charlie’s Produce of Anchorage are recalling 1336 cases of products made with the recalled Daniella mangoes. These products were sold at Walmart and Costco, along with other stores, in Washington and Alaska.

9/1/12: Taylor Farms New Jersey is recalling products made with the mangoes and products that may have been processed on the same equipment used to process the recalled mangoes. They were sold to stores in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

9/2/12: F&S Produce is recalling products made with the recalled mangoes that were distributed in the Northwest United States. Trader Joe’s and Walmart are two of the retailers that sold the recalled products.

9/4/12: Food Lion, Harveys and Reid’s are pulling Daniella mangoes from store shelves. They are part of the Splendid Products recall. In addition, Food Lion was carrying the Garden Highway Mango Medley that was part of the F&S recall.
