Pets with Salmonella infections may have decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain, leading to diarrhea and vomiting. Pets can be carriers of the bacteria. People who handle the pet food or come into contact with infected feces may contract Salmonella. In fact, there is an outbreak of Salmonella in nine states and Canada related to the larger pet food recall.
