Four Seasons Dairy Recalls Herring Fillets for Possible Listeria

Four Seasons Dairy in New York is recalling Herring Fillets “Atlantic Recipe” in oil because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The product is in a 16.66 ounce/500 gram clear plastic tub with an expiration date of 12/11/12 on the bottom. The recalled herring was distributed nationwide and is a product of the Ukraine.

Listeria bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, and those with compromised immune systems. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirths.

The contamination was discovered after sampling by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Market Food Inspectors analysis. Laboratory tests revealed the presence of the dangerous bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem. If you have purchased this product, return it to the store for a refund. For questions, call the company at 718-567-7877.
