Kaytee Recalls Mouse, Rat and Hamster Food for Possible Salmonella

Kaytee Pet Products is recalling Kaytee Forti-Diet Pro Health Mouse, Rat, and Hamster food because of possible Salmonella contamination. No pet or human illnesses have been reported to date.

This product was manufactured on January 5 and 6, 2012. Kaytee is removing the product from all retail stores and distribution centers.

Anyone exposed to Salmonella should watch out for nausea, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. Pets with Salmonella may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets may have milder symptoms. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.

The products were distributed to: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin; and, into the countries of Abu Dhabi, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Czechoslovakia, Dominican Republic, Dutch Antilles, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Guam, Honduras, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Mexico, New Zealand, Pakistan, Panama, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Thailand, and Trinidad.
