Michael Foods Eggs Recalled for Listeria

Michael Foods, Inc. of Minnetonka, Minnesota is voluntarily recalling hard-cooked eggs, according to Sysco Quality Assurance. Sysco is informing retail stores and other establishments about the recall in an internal memo. This recall was mentioned in the recall of 18th Street Deli Julienne Salads.

The eggs are being recalled because of a “presumptive positive” test for Listeria monocytogenes in several lots. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) reported the recall, although the general public has not been informed by the FDA.

The affected lot codes are:

The product was shipped by Sysco Kansas City from January 9, 2012 to January 25, 2012. Sysco is asking its vendors to review inventory for these products, and if they are in inventory, place them on hold for destruction. Sysco is also asking its vendors to contact their customers that may have received these products and ask that they destroy the eggs.

The eggs are part of a recall announced by Spartan Stores in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The eggs may also have been served at Streamwood High School in the Elgin, Illinois School District in a salad on Thursday, January 26, 2012. The school administrators were notified of a “nationwide precautionary recall of GFS-brand hard-cooked eggs.”

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with consumption of these products.
