Recalls for Products Containing Sunland Peanuts Continue to Grow

The recalls for Sunland peanuts for possible Salmonella contamination continue to grow. Four more recalls were announced today, including one for pet food. One Sunland product, Trader Joe’s Valencia peanut butter, is linked to a Salmonella Bredeney outbreak that has sickened at least 35 people in 19 states. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the products listed below. You can see all of the recalls at the FDA site.

Natural Selection Foods is recalling Earthbound Farm Baby Spinach Grab & Go Salad Kits with Peanuts. The product is in a 3.5 ounce clamshell container with UPC number 0-32601-08875-0. All “use by” dates are affected. They were distributed to supermarkets and foodservice operators in California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, British Columbia (Canada) and Ontario (Canada). Trifecta Foods is recalling Fresh Pak and Energy Club in-shell roasted salted and unsalted peanuts supplied by Sunland. You can see the long list of recalled products, along with the weight, UPC number, and best by dates at the FDA site.  Product photos are also at that site. The peanuts were distributed nationally to independent stores, grocery, and retail chains. The “Best By” dates on the products range from November 23, 2012 through April 10, 2013. Buck’s Ice Cream, co-pack manufacturer for Iskream, Inc., is recalling all lot codes of Iskream Brand Peanut Butter and Jelly No Sugar Added Ice Cream because it was made with Sunland peanuts. It is packaged in pint containers and labeled “Reduced Fat No Sugar Added Peanut Butter and Jelly”. The UPC number is 858452020554. It was distributed to retail customers through several wholesale distributors in the Northeast between March 1, 2012 and October 17, 2012. For questions, call 1-888-22-BUCKS.

TBD Brands is recalling Yoghund brand Organic Banana & Peanut Butter Flavor frozen yogurt dog treats that were made with Sunland peanut butter. All case product of Lot Code 268 12 and earlier, cup and four pack Best By Date of 9.24.14 or earlier are recalled. Pets with Salmonella may have decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain that can lead to lethargy, diarrhea, and vomiting. If your pet has eaten this product and has these symptoms, see your veterinarian. Humans beings handling this product can contract a Salmonella infection.
