Simmering Soup Recalls Salsa and Balela Because of Gills Onions

Simmering Soup, Inc. of Georgia is recalling Trader Joe’s brand of Salsa and Balela because the products contain diced onions that are produced by Gills Onions LLC. The onions may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The products were shipped under the “Trader Joe’s” brand between July 25 through July 26, 2012 to Trader Joe’s stores in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and the southern region of Virginia.

The products include 16 ounce mild salsa with a use-by date of 08/09/12, SKU number 082584, and UPC number 00285841. Also recalled is Balela in 8 ounce containers with a use-by date of 7/31/21, SKU number 068306, and UPC number 00683067. The products were packaged in translucent plastic cups with snap on lids.

None of the products have tested positive for Listeria and there have been no illnesses reported to date. If you bought these products, destroy, discard, or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. For questions, call 401-225-1288 Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm EST.
