Sunland Expands Salmonella Recall to Include Whole Peanuts

Sunland is expanding its huge recall of peanut butter and nut butter products to include roasted and raw, shelled and in-shell peanuts. The nuts either are within their current shelf life or have no stated expiration date.

Important RecallThe original recall on September 24, 2012 included peanut butter and other products. One of Sunland’s products, Trader Joe’s Valencia peanut butter, has been linked to a Salmonella Bredeney outbreak that has sickened 35 people in the United States. The peanuts were distributed mostly under the Company’s label and distributed to produce houses and to large supermarket, grocery, and retail chains, as well as over the internet. Other brand names recalled are The Nut Shop, Natural Value, Mega Raw, and Treasured Harvest.

The roasted and roasted/salted peanuts were distributed during the period of April 12, 2012 – October 12, 2012 and have best by/expiration dates from October 12, 2012 through April 13, 2013. The raw peanuts were distributed from October 12, 2011 to October 12, 2012 and have best by dates from October 12, 2012 through October 12, 2013. You can see all of the descriptions, UPC numbers, Item numbers, and Item weight at the FDA site. Below the new item recall list, the list of all recalled items is on that site.

If you have eaten these products and are ill, see your doctor immediately. Otherwise, return the products to the place of purchase for a refund or dispose of them immediately. For questions, call the company at 1-866-837-1018.
