Carson’s Deli Recalling Cookies for Undeclared Allergens

Carson’s Deli and Bakery of New York is recalling 300 packages of assorted cookies because they contain walnuts, wheat, milk, soy, and/or peanut butter, five of the major food allergens. One persons has been sickened by these products.

The recalled products include Assorted Cookie Pack, with UPC number 7 53182 15240 0 and Fudge Brownie Cookies with UPC number 7 53182 15240 0. The assorted cookies contain walnuts, wheat flour, milk, and peanut butter. The brownie cookies contain walnuts, wheat flour, and soy lecithin. The cookies were sold at five retail stores in Niagara and Erie counties in New York state.

The cookies are packaged in clear, hard plastic containers with net weight of 14 ounces, with seven or eight cookies in each container. The cookies have a sell by date of 4/26/2013 to 5/03/13. The consumer complaint revealed the presence of walnuts; FDA inspection found other allergens that were not declared on the label. You can see product photos at the FDA site.
