Garden Fresh Ham and Chicken Listeria Recall Expands Again

Garden Fresh Foods of Milwaukee is expanding its recall of ready-to-eat chicken and ham products for possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today that the company is recalling approximately 6,694 pounds of products in addition to the 19,054 pounds of similar products that were recalled on Sept. 25, 2013. The products included in the expanded recall were produced between Oct. 10 and Oct. 15, 2013.

RecallThe recalled products have the establishment number “EST. 17256” or “Est. P-17256” inside the USDA mark of inspection and were distributed to retail and food service establishments nationwide. To see a full list of the recalled products click here.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with these products but consumers who have purchased them should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness or death. Children, seniors, pregnant women and others with compromised immune systems are especially vulnerable. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Symptoms of a Listeria infcetion include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. See a doctor if you have these symptoms.
