Isabella Foods Recalls Tamales Because of Undeclared Wheat and Soy

Isabella Foods of Texas is recalling 685 pounds of tamales because of misbranding and undeclared allergens. The products contain wheat or soy that re not declared on the label.

The products that are recalled are 36 ounce packages containing 12 “Isabella Foods of El Paso Green Chicken Tamales” with the establishment number “P-13389” inside the USDA mark of  inspection. Also recalled are 36 ounce packages containing 12 “Isabella Foods of El Paso Red Pork Tamales” with the establishment number “EST. 1960” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were made through January 18, 2013 and sold to institutions and retail stores in the El Paso, Texas area.

The problem was discovered during a routine label review by an FSIS in-plant inspector. Soy and wheat were subcomponents of some of the ingredient used to make the tamales. To date, there are no reports of illness associated with these products. For questions and more information, call the company’s owner Nielson Guerra at 915-590-1899.
