Listeria Concern Prompts Canadian Recall of Igor Gorgonzola

Igor brand gorgonzola cheese is being recalled in Canada for possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). No illnesses have been associated with this product.The product was distributed in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and New Brunswick. It also may have been distributed in other provinces.
The importer, Agropur, St-Hubert, Quebec, is recalling the product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.The recalled cheese was sold in 1.5 kg packages with the UPC code 2190010 014222.  But it may have been cut and repackaged into smaller sizes at some stores. Talk with your retailer if you think you may have purchased this cheese.
Listeria can cause serious illness.
Recently in the U.S., a  multistate Listeria outbreak associated with cheeses made by Crave Brothers Farmstead Cheeses sickened five people including a pregnant woman who suffered a miscarriage and an elderly adult who died. Symptoms of a Lisreria infection, called listeriosis, include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should see a doctor.
