Square Mile Recalls Potentially Explosive Hard Cider

Square Mile Cider Company is recalling 2,500 cases of Square Mile Original Hard Apple Cider and Square Mile Spur & Vine Hopped Apple Cider that because the cider may have an off taste or the bottles may burst due to refermentation within the finished product. No illnesses or injuries have been reported at this time.

warning recall signThe recalled products were packaged in 22 ounce bottles on or before May 15, 2013 and sold in retail locations in California, Oregon and Washington. The products are marked “Hand Picked” and “Hand Pressed” on either side of the logo.

“As a handcrafted, small batch cider maker, we take all packaging and product quality concerns very seriously. We are working with our wholesalers and retail partners to remove all affected product from store shelves as quickly as possible. We are also confident that we have identified the problem and want to reassure our consumers that we stand by the quality of our products,” said Lorin Gelfand, brand manager for SMCC in a statement.

Consumers who may have purchased the recalled products should not drink it. The company recommends disposing of it in an outdoor trash receptacle.
