4C Grated Parmesan Recalled for Possible Salmonella

4C Foods Corp.  of Brooklyn is recalling parmesan cheese for possible Salmonella contamination. No illnesses had been reported at the time of the recall.

The recalled products are  6-oz. glass jars of 4C Grated Cheese HomeStyle Parmesan with the UPC 0-41387-32790-8 and “best by” dates  JUL 21 2016 and JUL 22 2016. The recall does not include any other 4C cheese products.

4c-parmesan-recallThe recalled products were packed 12 to a case and distributed to retail stores in IA, IL, MI, MN, ND, NE, SD, and WI. A total of 308 cases are being recalled.

Consumers who have purchased these products as Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.  Children, seniors and those with weakened immune systems are most at risk. Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Sometimes the infection can travel to the bloodstream and produce more severe illnesses.

The problem was discovered during routine testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Consumers should dispose of the product and contact the company for a replacement or refund at t 1-718-272-7800 ext. 176, Monday – Friday, 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM (Eastern Time),.
