Chile Molido Puro and Rojo Recalled for Possible Salmonella

Fernandez Chile Company of Colorado is recalling Chile Molido Puro and Chile Rojo because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. You can read the Spanish version of the recall at the FDA web site. No illnesses have been reported in connection with these recalled products.

Recall SignageThe products are Chile Molido Puro in 4 ounce containers with UPC number 77601-10011, and 6 ounce containers of Chile Rojo with UPC number 77601-10053. They were distributed in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, and California. Some of the chains that received the products include King Soopers, Safeway, City Market, and independent grocers.

The 4 ounce Chile Molido Puro is in a clear plastic bag with an expiration date of 01/2017 on the back. The 6 ounce Chile Rojo is in a clear plastic bag with expiration date of 02/2017 on the back. The potential for contamination was noted after routine testing by an independent lab found the pathogenic bacteria.

If you purchased either of these products, do not eat them. Return them to the place of purchase for a refund or discard them in a sealed container. The FDA is investigating the source of the contamination.
