Christmas Cakes Recalled for Undeclared Walnuts

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Thrifty Foods are recalling Christmas Cakes because they contain undeclared walnuts, or tree nuts, one of the major food allergens. Anyone with an allergy to tree nuts could have a serious allergic reaction if they consume these products. There is no word on whether or not any reactions or problems have been reported to date.

Recall SignageThe recalled products are Thrifty Foods brand name. The first is Light Christmas Cake in 500 gram packages. The code on the product is Best Before Dates from 15 02 21 to 15 03 03, inclusive. The UPC number is 0201305 807497. The second product is Dark Christmas Cake in 500 gram packages. The code on the product is Best Before dates from 15 02 1 to 15 03 03, inclusive. The UPC number is 0201305 807490. The products were sold in British Columbia at the retail level.

If you purchased these products and are allergic to walnuts, do not eat them. Throw them away or return to the place of purchase for a full refund.
