Did Salmonella Sicken 100 at Centennial High School Sports Banquet in Georgia?

More than 100 people in Fulton County, Georgia got food poisoning after attending a Centennial High School football banquet, according to local news reports. At least one person has been diagnosed with Salmonella.

Salmonella BacteriaHealth officials do not know the source of the outbreak that caused more than 100 people to suffer symptoms including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps. They are asking anyone who attended the banquet and developed symptoms to see a doctor. The Fulton County health department has launched an investigation.

Symptoms of Salmonella poisoning are the same as those reported. They usually develop six to 72 hours after exposure and last about a week. In some cases, hospitalization is required. No information has been released about how many, if any, people were hospitalized.

School officials are asking those who are sick to stay home for at least 24 hours after symptoms resolve and reminding others to wash hands frequently.
