Dried Basil Recalled for Possible Salmonella

Lisy Corporation of Florida is recalling dried basil because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recalled product.

Lisy Basil Salmonella RecallThe recalled basil is Lisy Sweet Basil (Albahaca) in 6 ounce containers. The item number is 1132, the lot numbers are A013 0518 and A014 0518. The UPC number is 0 96786 30032 8. It was distributed starting on January 15, 2014 in retail stores in New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Maryland.

Routine sampling by the FDA revealed the presence of Salmonella in the herb. If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

The symptoms of a Salmonella infection include fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea that may be bloody. Some people can become so dehydrated they must be hospitalized. And others may develop a blood infection, or septicemia, as a complication of the infection.
