Food Poisoning Outbreak at Bonicki’s Sports Bistro in Muskegon Cty MI

muskegon-ctyHealth officials in Muskegon County, Michigan are investigating a food poisoning outbreak at Bonicki’s Sports Bistro. Diners who recently ate at the restaurant, located on 1891 East Apple Ave., and developed food poisoning symptoms such as abdominal cramping, vomiting and diarrhea should contact the health department and complete the form posted on their website.

Those who became ill said they ate at the restaurant in early April. Muskegon health officials do not yet know the food source or pathogen associated with the outbreak and are interviewing those sickened to get more information. Food poisoning can be caused by contamination from viruses, parasites or bacteria such as Salmonella, E.coli and Campylobacter.

Almost 70 percent of food poisoning outbreaks are associated with food from restaurants and delis, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). To reduce the risk of illnesses when eating out, the CDC recommends that consumers avoid eating raw meats and raw eggs and to send back food that is not piping hot.
