Herring Recalled for Undeclared Milk

Vita Food Products of Illinois is notifying the public that it is recalling 2,280 jars of Elf Herring Fillets in Wine Sauce, because the product in the jars is actually herring in sour cream, and therefore contains undeclared milk. Anyone with an allergy to milk could have a serious reaction if they consume this product. No illnesses or adverse reactions are reported in association with this recall.

Recall SignageThe recalled product is 12 ounce plastic jars of Elf Herring Fillets in Wine Sauce. The product has a best if used by date of 21 May 14 and lot number 03553, found on the back of the jar at the bottom of the label. It was sent to retailers in Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin beginning December 26, 2013.

If you purchased this product and are allergic to milk, do not eat it. Return it to the place of purchase for a refund or discard it.
