Hill’s Recalls Science Diet Dry Dog Food for Possible Salmonella

Hill’s Pet Nutrition of Kansas is recalling 62 bags of Science Diet Adult Small & Toy Breed dry dog food because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. The product, part of a single production run, was distributed to 17 veterinary clinics and pet store customers in California, Hawaii, and Nevada between April 24 and May 13, 2014.

Dogs can become ill if they eat the recalled product, and humans can become ill if they don’t thoroughly wash their hands after handling the product. Sick animals can also transmit the bacteria to people. Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic, with diarrhea that may be bloody, fever, and vomiting. Some pets may be carriers of the pathogenic bacteria but not display any symptoms. If your dog does become ill, see your veterinarian immediately.

The recalled product was in 15.5 pound bags, with SKU number 9097 and “best before” date and production code of 08 2015 M094. If you purchased this specific product, do not feed it to your pet. Return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
