In Canada, BBQ Products Recalled for Undeclared Mustard

It’s interesting that some foods that are not considered allergens in the U.S. are in Canada; mustard and sesame are two of them. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Federated Co-operatives Ltd. are recalling Smokey Sweet BBQ meat products because they contain undeclared mustard. Anyone with an allergy to mustard could have a serious allergic reaction if they consume these products. No illnesses have been reported to date.

You can see the long list of recalled products at the CFIA web site, along with sizes, codes on the product, and UPC numbers. The recalled products all have brand name CO-OP The Marketplace, and include Smokey Sweet BBQ Chicken Drumsticks, Smokey Sweet BBQ Beef Kabobs, Smokey Sweet BBQ Pork Back Ribs, and Smokey Sweet BBQ Pork Tenderloin, among others. they were sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Yukon at the retail level.

If you purchased any of these products and are allergic to mustard, do not eat them. Discard or return to the place of purchase for a refund.

Comments

  1. I’ve been allergic to mustard and some other members of the mustard family, since I was a very young child. It is hidden in natural flavors in food products, and unlabeld in many others, so it is very hard to avoid in the US. Food company customer service is usually worthless when contacted about mustard in their products. They don’t know, won’t tell, or give incorrect information.
