In Canada, Prosciutto Speck Recalled for Possible Listeria

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Concord Premium Meats are recalling smoked Prosicutto Speck because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to appear.

The recalled product is Marc Angelo Smoked Prosciutto Speck in 100 gram containers. The code on the product is Best Before: 14 NO 02, and the UPC number isĀ 6 27907 05740 3. It was sold in Ontario and Quebec at the retail level.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Discard in a double bag or return to the place of purchase for a refund. Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate these products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. They include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may have only a mild illness, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatnien infection of the newborn.
