In Canada, Update on Chia Seed Recall for Salmonella

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is updating its recall of chia seed products for possible Salmonella contamination. There is an outbreak associated with some recalled chia seed powder products in the United States; no illnesses have been reported associated with the consumption of these specific products in Canada. There is an outbreak of Salmonella from other brands of dried, sprouted chia seed powder products in Canada, with nine persons sick.

The recalled products include Intuitive Path SuperFoods Black Sprouted Chia Seeds Certified Organic in 227 gram containers. There is no UPC number, and the best before dates are Dec 31/14, Jan 1/16, and 05/16. Also recalled are Intuitive Path SuperFoods Black Sprouted Chia Seeds Certified Organic in 454 gram containers. The best before dates are Jan 1/16, 05/16 with no UPC number.

Also recalled are Harmonic Arts Botanical Dispensary Chia Seed Sprouted and Ground (Salvia hispanica) Organic in 227 gram containers. The UPC number is 1 37101 61797 1 and the code is 0290 BEST BEFORE 2016/05. Harmonic Arts Botanical Dispensary Chia Seed Sprouted and Ground (Salvia hispanica) Organic is recalled, sold in 454 gram containers. The code on the product is 0290 BEST BEFORE 2016/05, and the UPC number is 1 37101 62797 0. Finally, Naturallyorganic Organic sprouted chia seeds cold milled are recalled. They were sold in 250 gram containers, with code B1013SBC310 and UPC number 0 83747 00342 8. 

If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Return to the place of purchase or discard them in a closed container. You can see pictures of the recalled products at the CFIA web site.
