Listeria Prompts Vending Machine Sandwich Recall in NC, SC, VA, GA

Vending machine sandwiches and snacks made by SunBurst Foods of Goldsboro, NC and sold under a variety of brand names in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia are being recalled for possible Listeria contamination.

Recall SignageThe sandwiches, hot dogs and snack items were sold under the brand names River Edge Farms, CFW, Southern Zest, CJ’s Vending, Binford Street Deli, Middle Georgia Vendors, Roanoke Foods, Select Foods, and Jesse Jones. The recalled products include bologna, turkey, egg salad, chicken salad, ham and cheese, grilled cheese , peanut butter and jelly, and pimento cheese sandwiches; breakfast biscuit sandwiches with egg, sausage, ham or cheese; hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chili dogs, hot dogs, fried chicken, chicken tenders, green salads and more. Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as Listeria can cause serious illness. Symptoms of a Listeria infection, called listeriosis, can take as long as two months to develop and include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck and confusion. Sometimes those symptoms are preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. Listeria infections can be fatal. Children, elderly people and immune-compromised individuals including pregnant women are at high risk. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage or stillbirth.
