More HEB Ground Beef Recalled for Foreign Materials

Same Kane Beef Processor of Texas is recalling more ground beef for possible foreign material contamination. The first recall, issued October 1, 2014, was for about 2,000 pounds that may have contained plastic pieces. This new recall is for an additional 90,987 pounds that may contain metal pieces. The ground beef was shipped to retail outlets in Texas for further distribution. One injury has been reported in connection with the consumption of these products.

Recall SignageThe products that are recalled all have the establishment number “337” and were produced between September 9 and September 18, 2014. They include 3 pound packages of “HEB Ground Chuck” with a production date of 09/12/14 and a use by date of 10/02/14. Five pound packages of “HEB Ground Beef”, “73% LEAN 27% FAT”, with a production date of 09/15/14 and a use by date of 10/05/14 are also recalled.

Ten pound packages of of “HEB Ground Beef”, “73% LEAN 27% FAT”, a production date of 09/18/14 and a use by date of 10/08/14 are recalled. And finally, 10 pound clear film packages of formed patties made from Sam Kane Beef Processors “Ground Chuck” with a production date of 09/09/14 and a use by date of 9/29/14 are recalled.

The problem was discovered after a retail location received consumer complaints about pieces of metal, about 3 mm in size. Four separate complaints were received. One consumer reported a chipped tooth. You can see labels of the recalled products at the USDA web site.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Discard or return to the place of purchase for a refund.
