Raclette and Montboissie Cheese Recalled for Possible Salmonella

Ste Fromagere du Livradois of Fournois, France is recalling two types of cheese because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. This bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly, those with health problems, and those with weakened immune systems. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recalled products include Haut Livradois brand Raclette and Montboissie cheese lot #350. The names of the cheeses are Raclette du Haut Livradois and Montboissie du Haut Livradois. They were distributed nationwide in supermarkets and gourmet stores between March 10, 2014 and May 6, 2014. They were imported as 13 pound wheels, and are usually cut and wrapped at the stores. The Montboissie has a vegetable ash line in the middle of the cheese. The Raclette does not.

Routine sampling by the FDA revealed the presence of Salmonella in some of the products. If you purchased either of these cheeses, do not eat them. Return to the place of purchase for a refund.
