Rancho Feeding Corporation Recalls Unwholesome Meat Products

Rancho Feeding Corporation of California is recalling about 8,742,700 pounds of meat products because it processed “diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit or full benefit of federal inspection,” according to the USDA. These products are adulterated because they are “unsound, unwholesome or otherwise are unfit for human food and must be removed from commerce.”

Beef-CarcassThe products include “Beef Carcasses” (wholesale and custom sales only), 2 per box “Beef (Market) Heads” (retail only), 4 gallons per box “Beef Blood” (wholesale only), 20 pound boxes of “Beef Oxtail”, and 30 pound boxes of “Beef Cheeks.” Also recalled are 30 pound boxes of “Beef Lips”, 30 pound boxes of “Beef Omasum”, 30 pound boxes of “Beef Tripas” and 30 pound boxes of “Mountain Oysters” and “Sweet Breads.”

The company is also recalling 30 and 60 pound boxes of “Beef Liver”, “Beef Tripe”, “Beef Tongue” and “Veal Cuts” as well as 40 pound boxes of “Veal Bones.” Finally, 50 pound boxes of “Beef Feet” and “Beef Hearts” are recalled, as well as 60 pound boxes of “Veal Trim”.

The carcasses and boxes have the establishment number “EST. 527” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Each box has the case code number ending in “3” or “4”. The products were made January 1, 2013 through January 7, 2014 and shipped to distribution centers and retail establishments in California, Florida, Illinois, and Texas.

No reports of illness have been reported to date. If you purchased any of these products, return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

  1. Al of the articles I have read/heard on this story state that “diseased animals were not inspected”. Does that mean it’s ok to consume diseased animals as long as they are “inspected”? What are the diseases anyway? ???????????????

I’m glad to be strict vegan for over 20 years now. 57 years of age and healthier than most folks half my age!

  2. I suppose the recalled hazardous beef will be sold to pet food companies, then put our pets at high risk. That will be an asinine thing to do, but should surprise no one, since profits are put before pets. They are even put before people, when a company can get away with it.

  3. The beef recall is unclear to consumers which retailers sold the affected beef. Is there additional information that can be reported to us as consumers listing the retail store names involved in the recall? Thank you

    • Linda Larsen says

USDA will issue a list of retailers who most likely carried the recalled beef in a few days. We’ll tell you about it when that happens.

      • I read the meat in question was processed back from January 1-7, 2013, and another recall on 1/08/13. Obviously over a year one would think that it was already put into processed foods. The list is disgusting. I can’t imagine where the products would be used, except as I said in some processed stuff we unknowingly eat this crap. I’m glad I don’t eat burger, except one frozen product that has it in the tomato sauce (Walmart brand Manicotti – hoping it’s not part of that). You just never know what you’re eating anymore.
