Whole Foods Recalls Products Made with Cumin

Whole Foods Market is recalling foods made with cumin that may contain undeclared peanut, one of the major food allergens. People with an allergy to peanuts could have a life-threatening reaction if they consume these products. No illnesses have been reported to date.

Recall SignageThe recalled food items include prepared salads, seasoned meat items, tacos, and other seasoned foods. They were sold at Whole Foods Market stores in Connecticut, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Washington D.C. Not all of the recalled products were sold at all of the stores. Whole Foods has pulled the spice and all items containing the recalled ingredient. Signage is posted in the stores about the recall.

You can see the long list of recalled products, along with UPC number, sell by date, and the store where the items were sold at the FDA web site. The list is very diverse and ranges from Tex Mex Beef Meatloaf to Chicken Satay Lime Chipotle, Slaw Kale Avocado, Taco Salad, Beef Sirloin Kabobs, Burritos with Black Bean, Pork Spareribs, and Whole BBQ Chicken.

This is a secondary recall, after a spice supplier found that cumin sold by them contained traces of peanut protein. Contact the store near you to see if items you purchased are recalled. If you purchased any of the recalled items, do not eat them. Discard or return to the place of purchase for a refund.
