More Chia and Flax Seed Powder Recalled for Salmonella

The Salmonella outbreak linked to chia powders in the United States ended last month, but just yesterday the Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalled more Organic Traditions chia and flax seed powder for possible Salmonella contamination. The products are made by Advantage Health Matters and were sold nationally. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of these products. The recalled products are Organic Traditions Sprouted Chia & Flax Seed Powder in 227 gram containers. The codes are AHM/SFCB19014, AHM621140814N;, AHM621140815D, and AHM621140825D and the UPC number is 8 54260 00621 6. In Canada, Dietary Express Chia Products Recalled for Salmonella

In Canada, Dietary Express is recalling sprouted chia & flax seed powder from the marketplace because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. No illnesses have been reported related directly to this specific product, but there is a Salmonella outbreak in Canada and the United States linked to chia seed and sprouted chia seed products. The recalled product is Dietary Express Sprouted Chia & Flax in 454 gram packages. The size appears on the inner package only. There is no UPC number. All packages sold from September 26, 2013 to June 12, 2014 are included in this recall. If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Chia Powder Recalls for Salmonella in U.S. and Canada

A Salmonella outbreak that includes at least 21 cases in the U.S. and another 34 in Canada has triggered a number of recalls for products that are potentially contaminated. If a chia powder product you have purchased is part of the recall, do not use it. In the U.S., chia powder products that have been recalled include the brand names Navitas Naturals, Williams Sonoma and Green Smoothie Girl.  The recalled Navitas Natural products include Navitas Naturals Organic Sprouted Chia Powder in the 8 oz size with the UPC 858847000369 and all best by dates up to and including 11/22/2015;  and Navitas Naturals Omega Blend Sprouted Smoothie Mix in the 8 oz size with the UPC 858847000314 and all best by dates up to and including 11/05/2015.
