Eddy Packing Company Inc. of Yoakum, Texas is recalling about 26,136 pounds of chicken apple sausage that may contain foreign materials. The products were produced February 9, 2012 and were distributed nationally through a warehouse chain on February 14, 2012. Small Turtles Cause Salmonella Outbreaks

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is reporting three multistate outbreaks of Salmonella infections linked to small turtles. A total of 66 people have been infected with outbreak strains of Salmonella Sandiego, Salmonella Poona, and Salmonella Pomona in these states: Arizona (2) California (8) Georgia (1) Indiana (1) Kentucky (1) Massachusetts (3) Maryland (6) Michigan (1) North Carolina (1) New Jersey (6) New Mexico (3) New York (21) Pennsylvania (7) Texas (3) Virginia (1) Vermont (1) So far, eleven people have been hospitalized, but no one has died. And 55% of the victims are children 10 years of age or younger. These outbreaks are overlapping. Jalapeno Recall Expanded

The recall of jalapeno peppers by the Castellini Company LLC on March 27, 2012 has been expanded to include more lot numbers. The list is long; you can see the lot numbers at the FDA site. The peppers were sold in full case, 1/2 case, 20 pound, 10 pound, 5 pound, 2 pound, and 1 pound package sizes and were distributed March 8, 2012 through March 20, 2012. Possible Foodborne Illness Outbreak at Indiana Mexican Restaurant Chain

The Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health is investigating a possible outbreak of foodborne illness at Cebolla's Mexican restaurant in Time Corners, Indiana. About 20 people have been sickened after eat there on Sunday, March 25, 2012. The symptoms of the illnesses are consistent with norovirus, a common source of food poisoning. The management of the restaurant is cooperating with the investigation, and closed voluntarily on Thursday for cleaning. Norovirus is the leading cause of foodborne illness in the United States simply because it is so easily spread. Symptoms of the illness typically begin 24 to 48 hours after exposure.
