Canadian XL Foods Ground Beef Recall for E. coli Expands Again

The recall for XL Foods ground beef products has expanded for the third time in three days. The products may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7. The expanded recall includes unlabeled and/or unbranded ground beef products that were available for sale from August 24 through September 16, 2012 and sold at retail stores not identified in the CFIA’s product list.

Recall SignageBecause of this uncertainty, the CFIA is advising consumers who are not sure if they purchased the affected ground beef to return it to the place of purchase or throw it out. The recall now includes frozen ground beef products, patties, sliders, meatloaf, meatballs, and other products and extends to products sold at Sobeys/IGA, CO-OP, and other small retailers, local meat markets, and butcher shops. Look carefully at the long list of recalled products at the CFIA site. You can also see product labels at that site.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of this recall. For more information or questions, call the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342 Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm ET.
