Hannaford Cargill Ground Beef Salmonella Recall Retail List Posted

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has posted the list of retail facilities that stock the recalled Cargill meat Solutions Ground Beef that may be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis. These locations may or may not have received the product in question, so make sure that you use the product-specific identification recall information we told you about yesterday. Also check the PDF to find the specific address of the grocery stores on the list.

Ground Beef on PaperHannaford Grocery stores in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont are on the recall list. The list also includes Country Market in Oakdale, Connecticut; Brackett’s Market in Bath, Maine; Will’s Shop N’ Save in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine; and Gray Shop N’ Save in Gray, Maine. In Massachusetts, Pure Food Market in Southampton and IGA in Winchendon are on the recall list. Hunter’s Shop ‘n Save in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire is one of the facilities that may stock the product.

In New York State, the IGA in Brewster, Greenport, and Southold are on the list, along with Peck’s Market in Callicoon and Jeffersonville. Also, Hurley Ridge Market in West Hurley, New York; Wilson’s Lakeside Market in Wilson, New York, ; and G-Mart in Wurtsboro, New York may have the recalled ground beef. In New Jersey, IGA in Elmer and Ridgefield Park; and Town Market in Roebling are on the retail list. Finally, Lake Region IGA in Hawley, Pennsylvania may have received the beef.

Thirty-three people in seven states have been sickened by Salmonella Enteritidis infections linked to the ground beef. More than 29,000 pounds of ground beef, produced by Cargill Meat Solutions, has been recalled by the USDA. The meat’s “use-by” date has passed, but consumers most likely have some of the meat in their home freezers.

The beef was produced on May 25, 2012 and was sold wholesale in 14-pound chubs marked “Grnd Beef Fine 85/15”, but was also repackaged into retail sizes and sold under different brand names. If you are unsure if the beef you purchased is part of this recall, ask the store where you bought it.

Symptoms of Salmonella infections include fever, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, chills, nausea, headache, and vomiting. Those symptoms usually appear within 12 hours to 3 days after ingesting contaminated food.
