Harry’s Berries Salsa and Dill Beans Recalled

The California Department of Public Health is recalling canned Harry’s Berries Salsa in two varieties, and Dill Beans because they may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum. They were made by Gean Farm Inc. of Oxnard, California.

The products were sold at Certified Farmers Markets in Venture, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles Counties. The products are Harry’s Berries Salsa Mild, Harry’s Berries Salsa Hot, and Dill Beans. The recall date is 12/3/12. There is no word on the dates that the products were available for sale. No one has been sickened by these products.

Foods contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, which produces botulism poison, do not look, smell, or taste spoiled. A tiny amount of the poison can paralyze and kill an adult person. Low acid canned foods are susceptible to this type of contamination because the botulism spores grow in anaerobic, or low oxygen, environments. If you purchased these products, discard them in a sealed container or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
