In Canada, Kirkland Beef Steaks sold at Costco Recalled for E. coli 0157:H7

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public to not consume Kirkland brand beef steaks sold at Costco Wholesale store #156 because they may be contaminated with E. coli 0157:H7. All beef steaks, including Strip Loin Grilling Steak prepared and sold in variable weight packages are affected by this recall.

Recall SignageThe store is located at 13650 50th Street in Edmonton, Alberta. The steaks were sold from September 4 through September 7, 2012 with these Packed On dates: 12/SE/04, 12/SE/05, 12/SE/06, and 12/SE/07. Contact the store to see if the beef products in your home freezer are part of this recall.

There have been several confirmed illnesses associated with the consumption of Kirkland brand Strip Loin Grilling Steaks purchased from that specific store. E. coli 0157:H7 can cause serious illness, including kidney failure, dehydration, and death. Foods contaminated with that bacteria will not look, smell, or taste spoiled.
