Kroger Recalls Spinach for Possible Listeria

Kroger is recalling spinach sold at its stores in 15 states because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The product recalled is Fresh Selections Tender Spinach sold in 10 ounce packages. The spinach has a “best if used by” date of September 16, 2012.

Recall SignGrocery stores that carried the spinach are located in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, and Nebraska. The recall also includes the stores Jay C,  FoodsCo, Food4Less, Food4Less Fremont, Dillons, Baker’s, and Gerbes.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause severe illness, especially in the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women can have only mild symptoms, but listeriosis can cause stillbirth and miscarriages. If you have purchased this product, return it to the store for a refund.
