  • District of Columbia (2)
  • Florida (1)
  • Georgia (6)
  • Illinois (14)
  • Louisiana (3)
  • Maryland (14)
  • Massachusetts (23)
  • Mississippi (2)
  • Missouri (4)
  • New Jersey (8)
  • New York (30)

Nakaochi Scrape, or raw tuna backmeat that looks like ground or chopped tuna, has been recalled and is associated with this outbreak. It was imported from India by Moon Marine USA Corporation. Consumers should not eat this product. Retailers should make sure they do not have their product in their freezers.

The increase in cases from the April 17, 2012 report came from: Illinois (1), Massachusetts (14), New York (2), North Carolina (1), and Virginia (1).

Because the raw tuna was broken into smaller, unlabeled lots and frozen, public health officials are concerned that some grocery stores and restaurants may still have this product on hand.

The CDC estimates that there will be more illnesses reported in this outbreak. Illnesses that occurred after March 24, 2012 may not be reported yet; it takes a couple of weeks after illness onset before they are reported to health officials.
