Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Aliano’s Ristorante in Batavia, Illinois

Tom Schlueter, Communications Director for the Kane County Health Department in Illinois has told Food Poisoning Bulletin that there are eight people sickened with Salmonella linked to Aliano’s Ristorante in Batavia, Illinois. One additional case is being investigated to see if it can be linked to the outbreak. The investigation is ongoing and all possible sources are being explored.

Casual Restaurant TableThe age range of patients is from 2 to 64. The illness onset dates are from August 29 to September 4, 2012. The restaurant has been fully compliant with the investigation and has conducted sanitizing and cleaning operations. All of its employees are being tested for illness and are cleared before returning to work. Employees must have two negative tests 48 hours apart before they can work again. The restaurant had voluntarily closed after the outbreak was announced.

Salmonella food poisoning usually occurs 12 to 72 hours after exposure, and symptoms can last up to a week. Those in high risk groups, including the very young, the elderly, those with compromised immune systems and chronic illnesses can suffer more serious complications.
