Sunland Expands Recall of Peanut Products for Salmonella

Sunland Inc. has just updated and expanded its recall of peanut products for possible Salmonella contamination. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment sent us the update information. The recalled products were distributed nationally to many large supermarket chains and were available on the internet.

Warning Recall SignThis recall applies to all products with best if used by dates between May 1, 2013 and September 24, 2013. You can see the original list of recalled products at the FDA site. The updated products include Sunland Almond, Peanut and Cashew Butter, Peanut Butter Cups, Harry & David Creamy Peanut Spreads and Peanut butter, Sunland Peanuts, Tahini, and Mixed Nut Butters.

The products range from 16 ounce sizes up to 40 pound sizes, which means they were sold to consumers and to large institutions for foodservice use. You can find the newly recalled products by visiting the Sunland web site and clicking on the link there. We’ll update this story when the FDA adds the list of newly recalled products.

If you have purchased these products, do not eat them; discard them or return to the place of purchase for a refund. The company has set up a 24 hour phone number for questions: 1-866-837-1018. If you have purchased and eaten these products and are experiencing the symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning, including diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, please see your healthcare provider immediately.
