Indonesianfoodmart.com of Maryland is recalling all packages of “Tempeh Starter Yeast” because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

There have been several illnesses reported that may be connected to this product. If you have purchased this product, securely wrap it and return it to the address listed on the FDA site, or discard it.

Unpasteurized tempeh is linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Paratyphi B in Buncombe County, North Carolina. Tempeh produced by Smiling Hara in that county was found to be the source of the outbreak. Unpasteurized tempeh is considered a raw product and, for safety, should be cooked before consuming.
