In Canada, Baby Food Recalled for Mycotoxin

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Wonder Berry North America are warning the public not to consume certain baby cereal products imported from Russia because they may contain mycotoxin HT-2. There has been one reported illness associated with the consumption of these products.

The products were distributed in Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec. All lot codes of UMNITZA (in Russian language) brand baby cereal products from the Russian Federation are affected.  The products include Buckwheat, 7 Grains, 5 Grains, Corn, Rice, and Wheat baby cereal.

HT-2 is a mycotoxin produced by the Fusarium species of mold. It can grow in grains and cereals. The toxin causes nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. For more information, contact the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342.
