In Canada, Reser’s Macaroni Salad Recalled for Possible Listeria

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is recalling some of Reser’s Fine Foods macaroni salads because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products.

The recalled products are Reser’s Cheesy Macaroni Salad in two sizes: 454 gram containers with code 2013 OC 20 and UPC numberĀ 0 71117 18241 5; and 1.25 kg. containers with code 2013 OC 20 and UPC numberĀ 0 71117 61227 1 . The product was distributed to Walmart stores in Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, and nationally in Loblaw stores.

If you purchased these products, do not eat them; return them to the place of purchase for a refund. Listeria causes symptoms of high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, and nausea. Infected pregnant women may have only a mild, flu-like illness, but listeriosis can cause stillbirth and miscarriage. One of the big problems with Listeria is that symptoms may not appear up to 70 days after you have eaten contaminated food.
