Listeria Concern Prompts Garden Fresh Potato Salad Recall

spartan-Listeria-recallGarden-Fresh Foods Inc. of Milwaukee is recalling a limited quantity of Spartan Fresh Selections American Potato Salad in 16 oz. packages because of potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The affected product was delivered to stores in Michigan and Toledo, Ohio.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with this product. But, consumers who have purchased it should not eat as Listeria can cause serious illness. Symptoms of an infection include: high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. Young children, seniors and those with compromised immune systems are also at elevated risk.

The products being recalled are Spartan Fresh Selections American Potato Salad in square 16 oz. plastic retail containers with a UPC Code Number 0 11213 90320 0 and a USE BY DATE of 09/06/13/04. The problem was discovered during routine testing.
