Apple Slices Sold at Subway in 10 States Recalled for Listeria

subway-apple-slices-listeriaPackages of Sun Rich apple slices are being recalled in 10 states for Listeria. The recalled products were sold at Subway sandwich shops, at other retail stores and through food service. They were distributed to IL, IN, KY, MI, MN, MO, ND, OH, WI and WV.

In Canada, where they were also recalled, they were sold at Subway sandwich shops and Starbucks stores and one illness was reported.

The recalled products were made at Sun Rich’s facility in Brampton, Ontario. They can be identified by a 7 digit numerical lot code that begins with the number 2.  They include: parfait cups of aple slice with dip, apples slices in bags, apples slices in a bag and box, For details, click the first link in this story.

Consumers who have purchase them should not eat them as Lisetria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, seniors, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems. Among pregnant women, listeriosis can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

Symptoms of an infection can take as long as 70 days to develop and include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Anyone who has eaten the product and develops these symptoms should see a doctor.
