Baby Spinach Recalled for Cadmium

The California Department of Public Health has issued a recall of organicgirl Baby Spinach because it contains cadmium, a heavy metal.  No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.

SpinachThe recalled product is 5 ounce packages of organic girl Baby Sp;inch with a use-by date of September 13, 2015. The product code is B030298-001B08S. The 1,290 cases of spinach recalled were distributed primarily to western and midwestern states.

Trace levels of cadmium are found in many foods and this compound is found naturally in the soil, water, and air. There is no minimum health tolerance for cadmium and the probability of health problems  in connection to this recalled food is remote. Chronic low level exposure to cadmium over a long period of time can cause kidney, bone, and lung problems.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Discard in a sealed or double bagged container or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
