Chicken Kiev SalmonellaThere is an outbreak associated with this recall. A cluster of illnesses in Minnesota was reported on June 24, 2015.

The chicken products were produced between February 17 and May 20, 2015. The recall now includes all products associated with contaminated source material (raw chicken).

The recalled items are 2 pound 4 ounce cardboard boxes each containing 6 individually pouched pieces of “BARBER FOODS PREMIUM ENTREES BREADED-BONELESS RAW STUFFED CHICKEN BREASTS WITH RIB MEAT KIEV”. The use by/sell by dates are April 28, 2016, May 20, 2016 and July 21, 2016. The Lot Code numbers are 0950292102, 0950512101, or 0951132202. The recalled products have the establishment number “P-276” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail locations nationwide and in Canada.

FSIS has determined that there is a link between the frozen, raw, stuffed chicken products from Barber Foods and an illness cluster of 6 people in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Some of these people told officials that they cooked the product according to package instructions and tested the final internal temperature with a meat thermometer, confirming that it did reach 165°F.

That means that you must treat this product as you would any raw chicken product; avoid cross-contamination, wash your hands, utensils, and work surfaces after they come into contact with the uncooked product. Also be careful that the breading on the product doesn’t fall off and contaminate surfaces or come into contact with other foods.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Discard in a sealed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund. Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling this product.
