Bell & Evans Chicken Nuggets Recalled for Staphylococcal Bacteria

Murray’s Inc. of Pennsylvania is recalling about 20,232 pounds of gluten-free breaded chicken nuggets that tested positive for Staphylococcal enterotoxin. No reports of illness have been received to date.

Bell and Evans Chicken Nuggets Staphylococcus RecallThe recalled product is 12-ounce boxes of “Bell & Evans Gluten Free Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets” with a “Best By” date of March 25, 2016. The product has the establishment number “P-516” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were distributed nationwide.

The problem was discovered by the Colorado Department of Agriculture during a routine sampling program. Staphylococcal aureus produces seven different toxins that cause food poisoning, sometimes in as little as 30 minutes. Thoroughly cooking the product does not prevent the illness, as heat doesn’t destroy the toxin. Symptoms of this type of illness include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it and do not open the package. Discard in a sealed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund, then wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
